The 21 former Boko Haram hostages rescued earlier this month are showing the world their strength by transforming into happy, carefree young women out of an unimaginable situation.

Just weeks ago, these girls were being held hostage by one of the world’s deadliest terrorist organizations until a government negotiation set them free. In Abuja, Nigeria, these girls we reunited with friends and families in their hometowns.

The girls were taken in April of 2014, when Boko Haram kidnapped 276 girls and women, ages 16 to 18, from a boarding school. You may remember the bring back our girls social media craze incited by the kidnappings. Few besides these 21 girls have been brought back.

The Nigerian government now wants all the former captives to have the best life possible.
