In case you haven’t noticed, the air quality in Knoxville has changed drastically in the past couple of days.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation has issued a Code Red Air Quality Alert today for Knoxville, the Smoky Mountains, and Chattanooga. The ongoing wildfires began to impact air quality in our areas on Monday. Officials say our air is far from healthy, and all East Tennesseans should limit their time outside.

If you have lung problems, it is advised that you stay inside.

Winds are expected to pick up out of the northwest, helping to clear out some of the cluttered air.
